The Best Jeans for Moms/Mums

In today’s post I’ll be talking about the best jeans for moms/mums, from high street through to high end!

A few discussions in the Facebook groups I am a member of inspired me to write this post. There were a lot of mamas in these groups looking for recommendations for the best jeans that would suit their post-baby bods.

If you follow me on Pinterest (and ever scrolled through my Instagram, when I had it) you would have noticed I live in jeans. I would wear jeans 24/7 if I could. They’re the perfect item for any mama who is short of time when dressing in the morning, all you need is a top and a pair of comfy shoes and you’re ready for the day.

However, shopping for jeans is a bugbear for a looooot of people because not every body is born equal. Also, unless you know exactly what you’re buying, buying jeans online is damn hard because you really need to see how they fit on YOU. The model on the website is all well and good but if you’re a good 8 inches shorter and curvier, chances are the jeans will look vastly different on you. Don’t get me started on buying second hand jeans online.

Having owned many many many pairs of jeans, these are the criteria I look for when buying jeans now as a mum:

Fit
Straight leg (boyfriend/girlfriend cut), slim leg, mom-style (slightly tapered) or skinny leg (not super skinny/jegging) are the most flattering.
Fabric
100% cotton to keep all the wobbly bits in, or no more than 5% elastane for skinny jeans.
Rise
Mid-rise or high-rise for the best tummy hold. (Our tummies are awesome mamas! Sometimes they just need a little more support.)
Wash
Classic blue denim or dark denim.
Price
For brand new, I expect to pay at least $120 for a good pair of jeans that will last many washes and wears. However, as you know I love a good second-hand purchase and will always try to buy preloved where I can. Check out my series on buying second-hand fashion from your phone for some ideas.

Here I’m wearing a pair of Topshop Petite Mom Jeans. I’m normally a size 27 but went down to a 26 in this style as there isn’t a 27. They’re a snug fit on the waist (no buffet dinners while wearing these) but fit great on the legs – a really nice tapered leg and the length is perfect (when cuffed).

The denim quality is a nice surprise given it’s Topshop – very little to no stretch, and hold up well after washing. The high waist means my tummy-after-two-babies is held in, as well as giving my short legs some much needed length. I bought these second hand via eBay BUT was a bit sneaky and popped into Topshop during a lunch break to try on the jeans before buying them. I really needed to see the fit of these on me before I committed to the purchase.
