Week 1 of Frugal Fashion February

Week 1 of Frugal Fashion February done and dusted, and I’m sharing what I wore and why.

If you follow me on Insta you’ll have seen my outfits for the first week of February… well, most of them! Each round up will include details of what I wore, why I wore them, and similar items where possible.

Outfit 1

See outfit details here.

Outfit 2

Activities: Running after 23 month old, errands, keeping cool (another ridiculously hot day).

I needed a comfy outfit for all of the above, as well as try to deal with the current humidity in Sydney. I swapped out the black Birks from the original Pin with my own white BirkenstocksĀ as I find the white ones less “boat like”.

Wearing Zoe Karssen striped tee (similar); Rag and Bone shorts (cut off from jeans – similar); white Arizona Birkenstocks.

Outfit 3

Activities: swimming with kiddos in the morning, park visit, groceries.

Again, another comfy outfit to accommodate the above. The rain the night before had made the day pretty steamy though so I was itching to get out of the t-shirt and sneakers as soon as we got home.

Wearing: Cotton On tee; Sample Brand slip dress (similar); Adidas Stan Smiths; thrifted New York cap.

Outfit 4

Activities: Blog planning, running after 23 month old, shopping for home organisation items.

Wow, reading my activities surrounding my outfits, I really lead quite a mundane life šŸ˜› After a couple of days of ridiculous humidity the heavens opened and Sydney became cool for one day. One. So I used the opportunity to wear jeans – I like to wear jeans at least once a week but the heat has been absolutely stifling.

Wearing: Reformation tee (bought second hand – similar); Forever 21 ankle crop skinny jeans (similar); thrifted tan Oxfords.

Outfit 5

Activities: DIY project to be blogged about soon; parent-toddler program with 23 month old

Starting to warm up again in Sydney so it was time to take out the skirt. Given that I’d worn a white tee in the previous outfit I swapped out the white tank from the original Pin to my striped one so that my outfits didn’t seem so…monotonous (one of my realisations – see thoughts below).

Wearing: T by Alexander Wang blouseĀ (from David Jones); navy blue pleated skirt bought overseas; Adidas Originals Stan Smiths.

Thoughts on Frugal February so far?

  • I’m LOVING that I can simply look at Pinterest the night before and have an outfit planned for the next day. BUT…
  • I’ve realised that a LOT of my outfits in my Pinterest board are pretty similar – ie denim, white, stripes. For outfits that have similar elementsĀ I’ll be swapping out some of the items for other ones I have so it doesn’t look like I’m wearing some striped/denim/white combo every day.
  • The weather has been really unpredictable. As in, Sydney has had some of the hottest February days ever recorded. So the outfits I had selected in my Pinterest board haven’t been appropriate for the temps, so have either improvised or completely changed what I had planned to wear for the day.

Any transgressions from the no-spend ban? Admittedly yes, but that was because I had finally found the black skirt I was after. Also, the Oxfords in Outfit 4 above, bought at the same time as the skirt. Hey, I bought these at my local Vinnies op shop/thrift store, so that’s still kind of frugal right?
