Since having kids I haven’t worn a lot of dresses. Well in fact, I haven’t worn a lot of dresses in general since high school, as I’m more of a pants girl.
Jeans and pants are my go-to pieces whenever I get dressed, possibly because that tomboy from my youth is still lurking somewhere inside. Then when I gave birth, it was a lot easier to wear separates than a full dress due to breastfeeding (although you could possibly get away with it by wearing a pair of leggings with the dress so at least you’re not showing your undies while nursing!).
Anyway, the point is that I don’t wear a lot of dresses, and looking back at my Instagram outfit posts I decided I should rectify this. In looking for a dress however, I wanted something that was pretty versatile – so something I could wear both in warmer months and in cooler months, and in my favoured neutral colour. I’ve been after something by American Vintage for a while now, and spied this gorgeous grey wool blend dress on eBay which I picked up for $29.99 + postage (I also bought something else from the same seller which I’ll post about soon!).
It’s a great little dress; even though it’s short-sleeved and lightweight the wool blend actually makes it quite warm. It’s the perfect length, and has a simple zip detail at the hem to keep it interesting, while still being simple. I can also see myself wearing it with a white button up shirt underneath for work.
During a visit to my alma mater, The University of Sydney (for the Rock n Roll and Alternative Market – hubby and I try to get there as often as we can), I paired the dress with my trusty denim jacket from Just Jeans (an oldie in my wardrobe), a leopard scarf donated by a friend for the Rule Breakers Club style challenge, and Shoe the Bear black ankle boots (also oldies).
It got warm enough to be able to ditch the jacket and scarf, and of course Miss 3 wanted to get in on the outfit pictures.
Are you more of a dress person or a pants person? I’m trying to be both, but I think pants and jeans will always rule my wardrobe!
