Pregnancy Style: Striped Dress and Showing off the Bump

Because pregnancy doesn’t mean ditching the striped dress!

It’s no secret that I am utterly obsessed with stripes. It’s my go-to print if I’m unsure of how to style a particular piece of clothing.

Some may think horizontal stripes makes the bump look bigger than it already is, but there was no way I was giving up on stripes during my pregnancies. In fact, stripes can be really flattering if you choose the right stripe – and why not accentuate that bump? (If it means getting a premium seat on a packed bus, then I’m all for it!)

In the same way, fitted dresses can be flattering on a pregnant body – more so than loose fitting or baggy clothes. Being petite, I find anything too flowy or loose too overwhelming, even more so now. The dresses don’t have to be body con tight, but fitted enough to show your bump in all its glory.

This dress from Tobi was the best of both worlds – striped and fitted. I sized up so that it would accommodate bump but not be too tight (here I’m wearing a medium), and it has a slight stretch so I could conceivably wear it through to the end of the pregnancy. The fabric was also thicker than jersey so the dress is fitted yet skims the bumps nicely without clinging. The mix of different stripes also helps accentuate all those extra curves.

The bump was very comfortable being shown off in this dress.

I had been obsessing over these slides from Tony Bianco for some time and one weekend decided just to take the plunge and get them. I actually don’t have any black sandals for summer – just a pair of white Birkenstocks and the tan ankle wrap ones I’ve worn to death and will miss wearing when I get too big to bend down to tie them up.

Most of my outfit shots are usually within a 50m radius from home so it’s nice when I get an opportunity to take some pics away from the garage door. (Thanks Instagram Husband and his work for the picnic at Barangaroo!)

  • I wish we had time to visit Barangaroo in Sydney! I’d planned to but at the last minute changed where I was catching up with my friend to meet her at a place I was familiar with, haha!

You look great in your striped dress – I’m a big fan of stripes any time, so of course I loved them in pregnancy too. Stripes are the best, and it was bodycon all the way for me with pregnancy – although I didn’t figure out that was the way to go until a few unfortunate muumuu-like purchases, haha!

    • I have to admit I haven’t been to Barangaroo a lot, it’s only if someone else has planned to go there or if we have guests in town. It’s a great place for the little ones to run around and use up some energy, and the view is spectacular!

Oh I know about the muu-muu like purchases too – they were quickly discarded after my first pregnancy! They just swallow us whole don’t they! For the second pregnancy it was fitted clothing all the way 😀

  • You look absolutely stunning in the striped dress! Also, those shoes are so cute! This is definitely an outfit that I would wear.
