Need ideas to buy a Christmas gift for a woman who seemingly has it all (or even ideas for yourself)? Read on to see what wardrobe staples you could shop (or ask!) for.
Fashion trends are all well and good but to be honest, most of the time we end up wearing the same clothes time and again. I’ve mentioned before that we only really wear about 20% of our wardrobe. As such, the bulk of our wardrobe should be made up of quality staples that we can wear over and over again. If you’re thinking about what to buy someone for Christmas, or indeed need ideas for yourself when you hit the sales after Christmas, below are some staples to keep an eye out for.
The Little Black Dress
Whether you’re a social butterfly or a Netflix junkie, a little black dress (or LBD) is always a good investment. Wear it with sneakers or sandals for a casual look; throw it over a white button up shirt for the office; put on some killer heels for nights out. It’s easily one of the most versatile pieces in any wardrobe.
The one wardrobe staple that works the hardest is probably a pair of jeans. (I know mine do – I can’t tell you how much I miss them during his pregnancy!) Like the LBD it can be dressed up or down, so it’s worth investing in a good pair or two of skinny jeans (probably the most flattering and versatile shape). With the addition of a nice top and high-quality shoes this simple outfit can help you looking and feeling stylish.
If you’re in the southern hemisphere like me, it may seen a little strange to mention the coat given that it’s summer, but it’s actually a pretty good time to start thinking about winter essentials, especially with the upcoming sales. Of course, if you’re in the northern hemisphere, the coat will probably be on high rotation right now. A coat is something you’d wear on the regular during winter – add some sturdy boots and your winter is set.
Fancy necklaces, bracelets and the like are great for every now and again, but it’s more important to get really good quality accessories for every day. Think a classic watch and/or handbag; for summer, a nice straw hat and for winter, a chunky scarf and gloves. These will get much more bang for the buck and can help elevate a simple outfit.
High Quality Basics
White t-shirts, striped tees, flats and/or sneakers may not stop traffic but having high-quality basics ensures they (and you!) always look good, no matter how many times you wear them! Quite honestly, I have never heard anyone say they have too many white or striped shirts (a sacrilege!), and a good quality basic will always be a welcome addition to any wardrobe.
Hopefully these wardrobe staples will give you some good ideas to help with Christmas shopping for that loved one who could do with an update to their staples! Or, if you’re missing any of the above, add it to your own Christmas wish list (or give you an excuse to go shopping?)
