Inspiration: Winter Capsule Outfits

The humidity in Sydney has got me pining for colder weather and I’m itching to pull out my knits and coats as any cool change in the temperature would mean some relief to this heat!

Insta-stalking plus a quick browse in the shops yesterday gave me ideas on the kind of outfits I wouldn’t mind rocking during my winter capsule wardrobe period, as well as some items to put on the wishlist at the end of my autumn capsule so I can potentially purchase them for winter.  No purchases yesterday I’m afraid, except for new decorative cushions; that clothes-and-shoe shopping ban during the capsule wardrobe period means the house is getting some much-needed TLC.

A fun take on the off-shoulder trend during the winter months is the cut out shoulder sweater, I first spied this look on Sheree from Posh Classy Mom and was in love with her Rebecca Minkoff cold shoulder jumper. Alternatives here, here, here and here but I’m also thinking of doing a DIY job on one of my old sweaters. It’s great for those days when it’s not too cold and you can show off some skin; it’s easy enough to throw a jacket or blanket scarf over the top when it does get chilly.

I’m finding pointy toe shoes suit my feet and outfits much more than round toe ones; this is a conundrum for me since I included my favourite round toe Tory Burch flats in my essentials capsule but I’m starting the favour the shape of pointy toe loafers.  These ones from Tony Bianco are fabulous but Sportsgirl also have a great pair that is really testing my no shopping resolve.

I love this cozy, comfy look from amothersedit – I’ve already got a similar cardigan, and c’mon, stripes – but what I really dig are the jeans with the lace up detail at the hem and the leopard print Stan Smiths. Insert multiple heart emojis here. The jeans are a possible DIY project too, but those shoes, those shoes! What a refreshing change from all the white sneakers that bombard my Instagram feed. (This Charlotte Olympia version is also perfection but I also quite like these slip on ones.)

Fellow petite blogger Angie from Reasons to Dress is rocking a dress over jeans and I have to say I’m rather loving this look for winter. I did a similar thing back in the heady days of university with a skirt over jeans but this take is much more stylish. The print of the dress and the polo neck under the dress are what appeals most to me, and I really need some tips on how to make flares work on my shorty legs – by the time I chop off the excess length they end up being straight leg jeans!

And on my lust list is this gorgeous jumper by Steele. – it’s grey and it’s got fringe and it’s everything I want in a jumper.
