In addition to my own capsule wardrobe challenge in that I’m only creating outfits from 45 items of clothing over the next three months (check out my 35 item autumn capsule here and my 10 item essentials capsule here)…
…I’ve also decided to participate in an Instagram style challenge #marchwearwhatwhere whereby each day in March has a different style prompt which you interpret however you want with your outfit. What’s great about participating in this style challenge is that it gives me some ideas on what outfits to create from my capsule wardrobe, and perhaps match clothes I wouldn’t have thought of before because I was always sticking to the same “uniform” – so having less clothes + different ways of styling what I do have is a definite style challenge!
One item that is new to my arsenal is this Folded and Hung sleeveless jacket that I bought while I was holiday. I’d seen this around on various style blogs and really wanted to give it a try, but never found the right one I wanted – it was either too long, not the right colour, waaaay out of my price range… While I was getting my pedicure done in Manila I saw this vest being advertised in a magazine and was on a mission to get it. At P999 (just over AUD$30), a nice neutral-ish colour and hitting just below my hips, I was sold. The question was, how to where it?
As Day 1 of the #marchwearwhatwhere challenge was “Laws of Layering”, I took the opportunity to whip the sleeveless jacket out to layer over my Lucky Brand mandala tank top and rag and bone denim shorts. I’ve spoken about the rule of three before and this jacket provided that third, additional element of interest over what would have been an otherwise simple outfit. It turned out to be a nice starting outfit for the first day of the challenge and the first day of autumn.
