Today the fam-bam had a trip to the Sydney Easter Show planned, and I had already set aside my jeans for that reason. Toting a double pram on public transport, walking for hours, potentially carrying a babe-in-arms for hours called for comfort, and stretchy skinny jeans were the answer.
The weather in Sydney has been a little iffy of late – rain for days, the coldest morning in March for a few years – then today a burst of sunshine. My solution? My Esprit denim chambray shirt, which could withstand any change in weather plus any tugging and pulling from a child. It also meant I was rocking the Canadian tuxedo, or double denim.
Whenever I’ve tried this trend it’s always been this same denim shirt with white jeans or black jeans – I’ve never done blue with blue. I have to say I like this combo. What I think appeals is the fact that they are two different shades of blue – my preference being darker blue on the bottom, as it’s not only flattering for my athletic legs, but also because when you turn up the cuffs on darker denim I like how the colour ties in with the lighter chambray top.
I always, always cuff the sleeves of this denim shirt as it just seems less stuffy and less… Canadian tuxedo. And because of Jenna Lyons. Partial tuck of the shirt keeps it casual and cool, and ankle boots for comfort.
It’s the first time we’ve been to the Easter Show as a family, and while I understand the appeal with the animals and dog shows and agricultural displays, it is also massively commercialised which kind of takes away from the original purpose of the show (which was to bring the country life to the city). The overly priced showbags! The merchandise! The sugary treats everywhere you turn! Thankfully the kiddos were A) too young and B) too tired to care about that stuff.
The food was decent. When I saw people walking around with this I was on a mission to eat it. It did not disappoint.
Fairy floss/cotton candy was a must do. Miss 3 had her first taste… and wasn’t too impressed.
My poor little buddy was too tired and sleep deprived to really enjoy himself.
Verdict on the double denim ensemble? I’ll definitely wear this again!
Verdict on the Easter Show? It’s OK. Probably once was enough. If we wanted to see some working dogs and farm animals, we’d probably drive out to an actual farm without being inundated with hawkers and sugary snacks.
