Petite Style: Mini Wrap Skirt and Turtleneck Sweater

Transitioning into the warmer months with a mini wrap skirt and a turtleneck sweater!

So I’m not much of a skirt person. Maybe it’s because I don’t really consider myself much of a girly girl. Or it might be because skirts can be a little impractical when you’re sitting on the floor at playgroup.

The other thing that I find difficult about shopping for skirts is the LENGTH. Skirts that are meant to be mini aren’t, maxi skirts are way too maxi, and midi skirts… don’t get me started.

When Petite Dressing sent me this mini wrap skirt to check out, I must admit I was a little hesitant because of the above reasons. But when I tried it on, I was pleasantly surprised – it was actually a mini skirt! And not too mini either – it fell about an inch or so above the knees, which is probably the shortest I’m willing to go.

I’m wearing a small, and while it fits it does fit snug, so I probably would’ve preferred a medium. The great thing is that there are two buttons, and with the small I decided to wear it on the button that was the least snug and then tied it up on the side. This gives me the incentive of doing more exercise to be able to wear it with BOTH buttons done up, haha!

The baby blue is actually very versatile – it goes well with my neutral wardrobe and being a light blue would pair nicely with bright colours too. If the small wasn’t so snug on me I’d wear a nice top with it tucked in to show the cute wrap and side tie detail. I did feel more girly than usual wearing this, but when worn with my favourites didn’t feel like it was too far out of my comfort zone!

While there’s no doubt summer is coming, there are some mornings where there’s still a bit of a chill in the air. The turtleneck is probably a bit overkill for this but I like the juxtaposition of a longer top with a short skirt.

Speaking of turtlenecks, I am totally breaking style rules for petites by wearing a turtleneck (shortens torsos by hiding the neck) AND wearing ankle wrap shoes (visually cuts leg off at ankle making them look shorter). But I LOVE them and no style rule book is going to tell me not to wear them. (Do go and check the Petite Dressing blog for other petite style inspiration and tips though!)

  1. It is such a cut skirt, although I agree with you on some skirts being a tricky length for playgroup, haha! I have so many pretty dresses I want to wear but they just aren’t practical at the moment with the boys. Maybe when they are older 🙂

    1. Oh I know what you mean. I have all these great tops and dresses that I can’t wear at the moment because of breastfeeding, spit up and playgroup! I’m also on a decluttering journey and it’s been so long since I’ve worn these I’m tempted to give them away, but I know I’ll be looking for them as soon as I’m able to wear them. I’ll just have to hang on to them until it’s practical to wear them again!

  2. I love, love wrap ruffled skirts like this. Love the baby blue color here and it looks seamless with the light gray turtleneck. Great outfit!

Welcome by Thursdays to join my linkup, babe.

    Happy Holidays! Ada. =)
