My basics for the third trimester and afterwards.
On my Instagram Stories some time ago I posted a little sneaky peek of some goodies I bought at the Bassike warehouse sale. When one of my favourite brands is selling their gear at 1/3 of the original price I’m all over it. They also make some great additions to my pregnancy capsule wardrobe.
2 of the items I bought are in this outfit – a pair of cropped drop crotch drawstring pants and a striped V-neck tank. I admit it’s not a terribly typical fashionista outfit, but at 32 weeks (at the time the photo was taken) it is just about the comfiest outfit I could wear.
A pair of loose fitting, comfy pants is essential when you’re sitting down and pregnancy spreading. They’re also great for when you’re leaving the hospital with the new bub. I know, I know, being a fashionista is the last thing on your mind when you’ve just given birth, but it’s also nice to look a little bit like yourself when you leave the walls of the hospital, because the sleep deprivation will probably affect your sense of who you are.
I’m sure these pants are meant to finish just below the knee on average-heighted women, but they were the perfect length for me.
I recently had a look in my closet and was slightly embarrassed by the number of striped items I have in there. I mean seriously, it’s probably in the twenties or thirties. I keep spying them, buying them, knitting them. It’s pathological.
BUT how good are stripes for a throw-on-and-you’re-good-to-go print. Whether you pair them with a plain or another clashing print, they just look fab.
These items are obviously not maternity wear, in keeping with my aversion to buying maternity clothes for this pregnancy, but they’re great for this third trimester where my body is pretty unpredictable. Organic cotton helps make coping with the humidity a little easier, and the jersey is growing nicely with me but bouncing back after a wash. They are of course perfect for after the birth, when creating an outfit will be pretty difficult when you’ve had 2 hours of sleep total but still want to look vaguely human.
The kids have also taken to photobombing my outfit photos.
