This week’s inspiration: sunglasses for winter

So I lost my prescription sunglasses a couple of weeks ago, which was a bit annoying because 1. if I’m not wearing them in sunlight there’s a hell of a lot of squint factor due to bad eyesight and glare (not so good for the old wrinkles); and 2. other than a pair of cheapy mirrored glasses that I bought on holiday in the Philippines they’re the only sunnies I had.

When Warby Parker contacted me about helping them out with announcing their new collection it was certainly very good timing, as I had been thinking about getting new glasses and I was sick of not being able to see properly while it was sunny. If you haven’t heard of Warby Parker definitely check out their website – I’d heard about them a few years ago from one of my favourite bloggers and had always liked their designs and their Home Try On system.

Sunglasses are an essential accessory if you live in Australia as the sun is pretty harsh. While it does get cold in winter, there’s still a fair bit of glare and I squint enough as it is with my bad eyesight (thanks genetics). With the loss of my only decent pair of sunnies I’m approaching my next glasses purchase with a bit of a plan on what I’m wearing – and of course, being winter in Australia in only a couple of months, I’ll be looking for snuggly, cozy outfit inspiration. I love winter fashion – all the layers and the knits and the boots! Don’t get me wrong, when it starts to get really cold and dreary I’ll start complaining, but there’s a perfect winter temperature, say around the 16-18 degree Celsius mark, where I’m a happy clam.

Here are a few winter outfit inspirations that I’ve pinned to my Pinterest boards, and the Warby Parker sunglasses from their new collection that I think would work with the outfits.

Yes yes it’s a pretty basic outfit but that’s just me – I’m all about basics and I love their simplicity and timelessness. I’ve got the denim jacket, the grey sweater and the waxed denim, and will probably swap out the Cons with my leopard sneakers. The Topper sunglasses above are a perfect choice for this outfit – simple, classic, timeless.

WP_Cecily_283_Sunglasses_Front_A3_sRGBI think I have mentioned before how obsessed I am with Sincerely Jules‘ style. I mean, I think I should just pin all of her website to my Pinterest boards. Anyway I am really looking forward to busting out my cream cable knit sweater and black ankle boots a la Julie above. These Cecily sunnies would actually work quite well with this outfit as the frames would really compliment the cream in the knit.

WP_Tilley_276_Sunglasses_Front_A3_sRGBNow the dilemma I have is that I have both a cream cable knit and a navy blue cable knit, not too dissimilar to Ali’s above. So should I include both in my winter capsule wardrobe? I love the plaid against the navy, and I also rather love her sunnies. These Tilley ones are a pretty good match and I love their retro shape – they make a nice feminine contrast to the man-ish stying of the outfit.

Khaki jacket, chambray shirt, knit, jeans: (via flickr)

WP_Lowry_101_Sunglasses_Angle_A3_sRGBThis outfit contains all of my staple winter colours – khaki, blue denim, cream and black. I’m also loving the layering and the preppy vibe of the outfit. In keeping with this vibe, I’m choosing these Lowry frames for their geek chic shape as well as the green in the lens – they’d look great with the khaki jacket!

Sweater and ripped jeans: (via steal the look)

WP_Hattie_923_Sunglasses_Angle_A3_sRGBI’m including this pic not for the crop top but for the ripped jeans which I am sooo hanging out to wear. I’ve left them out for my autumn capsule in place of shorts and I am kicking myself, I miss them so much. Anyway ripped jeans and this pair of shoes I’ve got my eye on would look fab together, as would these Hattie sunnies. I really like that transcluent wood effect on the frames and the neutral colour ensures they would go with pretty much any outfit.

One of my to-buy items for my winter capsule wardrobe is a black leather moto jacket – I’ve been thinking about this for ages, even while it was still warm in Sydney! In an all black ensemble like this, I actually think these Roland pair of sunnies would make a nice statement against the black with its clear frame and blue lenses, and draws attention to the face.

I hope you like the winter outfit inspirations and the sunnies I chose to go with them! Personally I normally go for square-ish type shapes for my glasses as that’s what I’ve always gotten, but I think the Tilley sunnies would be a nice change and would suit most of the outfits I’m planning for winter. I’d love to know which outfits and sunglasses are your favourites! Warby Parker is launching their new collection of glasses and sunglasses today so do check out their website for the full range.

Thanks to Warby Parker for asking me to review their new collection as part of its launch! All opinions stated above are, as always, my own.

    1. It was great timing I have to admit Chelsea. I hate the old squint factor so I’ve got to get on to some sunnies quickly! x

  1. I now it’s the beginning of winter for you guys and the end of it for us…kinda glad it is almost over and this past weekend was proof of that with beautiful weather and sunshine. While we don’t get much sun in the winter, when we do it’s bright because it glares against the snow…and it’s usually some of the coldest days for one odd reason or another lol… Would love if you can link up to
